Tiivistelmä:This book represents the outcome of two unique econometric experiments: first a field trial and second an exercise in 'tacit knowledge'. The field trial experiment comprised a set of eight volunteer teams each of whom had analyzed the same data sets and the tacit knowledge experiment comprised one apprentice who had analyzed a single data set in the styles of respectively, Hendry, Learner and Sims. The goals of these two experiments are, in the case of the field trial, to assess different ways of doing econometrics by a controlled field trial to take a specified data set and let several researchers carry out the same set of applied econometric tasks, but with their own approaches and beliefs. In the case of the tacit knowledge experiment, the goal was to determine the extent to which tacit knowledge is important in econometrics.
