| Tiivistelmä: | The use of multiple discriminant analysis and related statistical techniques for the forecasting of business failure by means of financial ratios is well-known. It is less common in the area of predicting takeovers. Here some important methodological matters are discussed. It is argued that the use of industry-relative ratios overcomes a number of the problems. A preliminary and exploratory application of such an approach in the UK is reported. |
