Tiivistelmä:In the external auditing context, it may be extremely difficult to assess the going-concern status of an audit client. To overcome this problem, the use of failure-prediction models is suggested. A failure-prediction model using financial ratios and stepwise multiple discriminant analysis is constructed and it is shown that the model can detect going-concern problems with an overall accuracy rate of 88,25 p.c., which is slightly greater than the auditors' overall accuracy rate of 86,50 p.c. However, for failed firms, the model's accuracy rate is 78,57 p.c. as compared to the auditor's accuracy rate of only 21,47 p.c.
