| Tiivistelmä: | A substantial body of empirical accounting, finance, management, and marketing research deals with problems with binary dependent variables. The purpose of this paper is to introduce logistic regression as an alternative approach to analyze such problems. After explaining the estimation pro- cedure in logistic regression, the author presents three methods of interpreting the coefficients in logistic regression and how it can be used for predictions. The estimation technique, the goodness-of-fit measures, and the interpretation of coefficients are illustrated with an example. It is shown that logistic regression has both strenghts and weaknesses that must be clearly understood |
