| Tiivistelmä: | If economics is the dismal science, then econometrics is its ill-fated offspring. The limited number of strong implications derived from economic theory, the all but complete inability to perform controlled experiments, the paucity of durable empirical results, the errant predictions and the bottomless reservoir of difficult to measure but potentially relevant variables -- these do not set a pleasant working environment for the empirical analyst in economics. |
