| Tiivistelmä: | Operational Research as originally designed and implemented drew on multidisciplinary expertise and could be particularly useful for the solution of longer-term, complex problems. For some reasons the concept of decision making (or the decision maker) was not equally developed, which in turn has led to the "disappearing decision". The introduction of a host of new techniques and methods, many of them from the futures field, could help in solving the problem. Global problems have, in a sense, brought back the initial raison d'etre for Operational Research since they pose extraordinarily serious threats to human survival. |
