| Tiivistelmä: | The work of the Swedish Secretariat for Futures Study was so severely questioned in some aspects that a parliamentary committee was set up by the government in 1984 to investigate the work it had carried out and to provide recommendations on the future of futures studies. The background is described against which the Secretariat was set up and how it evolved. The committee's conclusions differed extensively from those presented earlier by an expert panel. Its recommendation advocated a continuity with original ambitions, achieved through an upgrading effort, whereas the panel favored a gradual withdrawal from the holistic mission. By suggesting an independent institute, the committee proposes more strength. |
