| Tiivistelmä: | Forecasting the likely future of the USSR and Eastern Europe is difficult at a time when the political and economic situation of these countries are permanently changing. Moreover, alterations in economic policy will be mainly the result of political events, making any analysis speculative. The article looks at the political and economic situation and its probable evolution in Eastern European countries and the USSR, and finds some common factors for both favourable and problematic long-term prospects. It is argued that the European Community has an important role to play in the economic recovery of these countries. |
