Tiivistelmä:Examples of revolutionary technological changes that transform industries abound. Discontinuous change brings about "creative destruction", the overturning of established industry structures. Industry leaders become losers if they have difficulty managing technological discontinuities - movements from one technology to another with inherently higher limits. There are plenty of examples of creative destruction based on both product and process revolutions. Managing through periods of upheaval and transformation requires that we develop a useful model of technological change. The study of the history of three industries leads us to conclude that technology progresses in a series of cycles.
