Tiivistelmä:Market economy and the introduction of well-known owners of the enterprises require from the managers to have new knowledge of how to run the firm.Furthermore, different personal characteristics are required that it used to be the case in the selfmanaging planned economy.The theoretically required characteristics and the profile of a manager have been examined with a questionnaire among 61 Slovene managers.The results of the survey have been compared to the results of similar survays in Slovenia and in the USA as well as with the teoretical views of individual outhours.On the basic of these comparisons it can be stated that in Slovenia there are no generally accepted criteria, according to which the suitability of the profile and personal characteristics of our managers can be evaluated.Therefore it is difficult to claim that in Slovenia suitable managers either to or do not exist.It is allso difficult to determine what the inclination of the Slovene managers is - to work with people or things.There out of date types of managing can allso be found.The management must be able to motivate the employees so that they can reach the goals, the managers have to know how to deal with people, be cooperative, communicative, creative and original in scarching for the solutions.
