Tiivistelmä: | The economic situation in the world economy improved markedly in 1994. While growth remained strong in many developing and newly-industrialized countries, the upswing in industrial countries broadened and gained momentum. Real GDP increased by some 3 percent. Capacity utilization was higher than a year ago - with the important exception of Japan. The labor market situation improved, too; in a number of countries, unemployment declined for the first time in several years. Inflation remained subdued; in the industrial countries as a whole, consumer prices increased by slightly more than 2 percent. This is the lowest rate of the last 30 years. |
