Tiivistelmä:The expansion in the world economy continued in the course of 1995. The upswing in the industrial countries, however, lost some momentum. In Western Europe the recovery slowed also in consequence of higher taxes and social security contributions. Owing to a significantly tighter monetary policy, economic activity in the United States slowed down markedly. In Japan the recovery remained sluggish. During the winter, real GDP in the industrial countries rose at an annual rate of some 2 percent, down from 3 percent in the summer of 1994. In most countries, the labor market situation improved slightly. In spring the average unemployment rate was about half a percentage point lower than a year ago. Inflation was on the rise in some of the industrial countries but remained nevertheless moderate.
