| Tiivistelmä: | The industrialised countries continued to experience steady economic growth in 1997, although the overall growth rate remained modest. In North America economic growth accelerated markedly, despite the fact that the upturn has been sustained for many years now. In western Europe the process of cyclical recovery continued, but has remained rather limited. In central eastern Europe, and especially in Asia, the growth dynamic weakened markedly. In the reforming countries of central eastern Europe, particularly the Czech Republic, this was due partly to restrictive domestic economic policies. |
