| Tiivistelmä: | The recent outcome of the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) negotiations established minimum levels of patent protection surpassing those currently provided by many countries, particularly less developed countries (LDCs). Theoretically, a final agreement was reached because all sides perceived the trade-offs as acceptable, but this may not be the best outcome for the LDCs. It may be that LDCs gave in patent protection in exchange for advantages in , say, agricultural trade. |
