| Tiivistelmä: | The article attempts to clarify the concept of connotation and to offer a theory of connotation in a semiotic framework. Unlike the static theories of semiotics offered by Saussure and Hjelmslev, the Piercian notion of 'interpretant' offers an adequate base for the understanding of the phenomenon of connotation. |
