Tiivistelmä:Enlargement negotiations, enabling the EU to expand from 12 to 15 members from 1 January 1995 with the accession of Austria, Finland and Sweden, embody many significant messages for the future enlargement of the EU which will be possible after the Intergovernmental Conference of 1996. The importance of enlargement negotiations is, however, quite normal in the history of European integration, and enlargement negotiations have played a substantial role in the creation of the European Union.
