| Tiivistelmä: | The main purpose of this article is to present a critique of liberal intergovernmentalism (LI). The first part will assess its theoretical status, and come to the conclusion that LI is a methodologically sophisticated approach to the study of European integration, not a theory of integration. A theory of integration would set out circumstances in which it would be empirically refuted , but would be immune from more generalized empirical criticism. Section III presents an alternative approach, grounded in policy analysis. |
