Tiivistelmä:Using data on 13 countries from the European Community Household Panel (1994-2001), this study examines changes in employment (henceforth as: empl.) for separating (herein as: sep.) women and the impact of individual and institutional factors on these changes. The dynamic analyses of empl. entry and exit, and working hour changes show that European women only modestly increase empl. after sep., despite this change in some countries being larger than in others. Important individual-level determinants of empl. changes are education and labour market experience, health, and the presence of young children. Institutional factors have opposing influences: more generous public childcare provisions encourage the empl. of sep. women, whereas more generous allowances for single parents discourage employment. The results underline the importance of differentiating btw. income- and employment-related institutions in studying union dissolution outcomes.
