| Tiivistelmä: | Major financial crises associated with massive recessions and extreme movements of exchange rates were experienced in Brazil, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia and Thailand between December 1994 and March 1999. Argentina and Turkey were threatened by similar crises, and most recently also Brazil, again. The reform of the international financial system is discussed in this article with a focus on the role of the IMF - reforms directed at crisis prevention, and those intended to improve the responses to crises. |
