Tiivistelmä:The author describes and appreciates the most important strategic portfolio planning approaches. From the varied natures of these models, it is clear that portfolio concept has a very wide scope of application. The widespread use of such models has enabled management to assess more efficiently the company's positions: present, projected future and desired positions on various dimensions. The essence of portfolio analysis lies in the integrated approach based on the interdependencies of management decisions. The portfolio approach helps to enforce a discipline for judicious allocation of a company's limited resources to an optimal combination of company business endeavours.
