| Tiivistelmä: | This paper provides general equilibrium estimates of the welfare effects of trade policy options for nations of Central America and the Caribbean, which will be called in the rest of the paper CAM. The unilateral reform is designed to replace actual tariffs with a revenue-neutral uniform rate. In the context of regional integration, the options examined in the paper are CAM joining NAFTA and MERCOSUR. Along with the welfare implications of trade policy, this paper also addresses the question of the appropriate tax mechanisms to replace the tariff revenue losses. |
