Tiivistelmä:A constructive replication of an earlier study is described. The original study tested the hypothesis that relatively poor mental health is associated with simplified jobs, but only for those employees who see their work as not using their skills, and who at the same time report high level of cognitive failure. This is confirmed in full by the findings from one sample, but only partly supported from another. A conclusion is drawn that the people most likely to be at risk from simplified jobs are those in the predicted focal group, though this does not preclude the possibility of a main effect of a badly designed job. Such constructive replications of empirical work are rare in the area of job design.
