| Tiivistelmä: | The aim of this work is to test a few hypotheses concerning markets where instead of taking demand as given, it is subject to sophisticated and encompassing price-building strategies. The analysis is based on a comparison of data on quoted dealer prices for medium-sized works of 100 visual artists from 1970 to 2004 and the auction prices of works by same artists. The results show notable inconsistencies regarding the link between the age of artist and their works' prices, and regarding the evolution of price indices in the two markets. |
