| Tiivistelmä: | For the economic misery and recession in Central Europe (CE) trade may offer a solution. Trade potential of Central European countries is analysed, specalization, cost advantage, the relative macroeconomic position are considered; the strength and weaknesses of CE are assessed, quality and technology are analysed. CE's export growth and OECD import demand are compared, threats and opportunities of CE integration in the world economy are summarised. The question whether it is indeed possible to open up these economies is investigated. Three scenarios (basic scenario, aid scenario and trade-cum-destruction scenario) for Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland are presented, capital requirements of the three countries are estimated. |
