| Tiivistelmä: | This paper examines the governance (henceforth as: gov.) of Spanish banks regarding two main issues: 1. Does poor economic performance (here as: ec-perf.) activate gov. interventions (here as: int./ints.) favouring the removal of executive directors and the merger of non-performing banks?, 2. Does the relationship btw. gov. int. and ec-perf. vary with the ownership form of the bank? A negative relationship btw. ec-perf. and gov. int. for banks is found, but the results change for each form of ownership and each type of int. |
