| Tiivistelmä: | The paper examines the neighbourhood effect on educational attainment in Finland. The effect has been found in previous studies. This survey takes into consideration the lack of information on the mechanisms of neighbourhood effects and on multiple contexts. The imperfections of the previous studies are examined via school data to achieve further knowledge of the mechanism of an observed neighbourhood effect on young peoples education. The findings are in accordance of previous studies revealing that the effect of neighbourhood's educational composition on educational choice is for a large extent mediated by school context. In addition it was found that the socioeconomic background of the pupils has an independent association with the educational choices that is not related to the educational composition of the pupils neighbourhoods population. |
