| Tiivistelmä: | The current debate on economic policy in Germany is marked by an astonishing contradiction. Certain quarters, including the Federal Government, are claiming that the German economy is suffering from excessive costs and is thus uncompetitive in international terms; the same camp also assumes that the West German economy has already bottomed out and recovery has begun. This view is based primarily on a rise in incoming foreign orders. If the view were true it would mean that West Germany had experienced the shortest downturn by far for 20 years. |
