Tiivistelmä:The market for canned food in Europe is considered with special focus on the UK, France, Germany and Italy. The four main sectors are canned vegetables, fruit, meat and fish. Canned vegetables is the largest sector by volume but faces increased competition from frozen and fresh alternatives. Traditional canned meat products are either stagnant or in decline; the only growth potential in the meat sector is offered by poultry meat. Growth is found in sectors of soups, sauces and ready meals. Sales increased by value in all key countries except Germany in 1990. Highest increase was recorded in France and Italy.
