| Tiivistelmä: | Taking into consideration the lasting budget deficit and the heavy indebtedness of the state as well as the high inflation in the country, it is not likely that Italy will met in time the requirements for joining the Western European monetary union. It is the more important, since in Italy there was only a very moderate growth in 1991 too: GDP was 1.4 .p.c. higher than one year before, while in 1990 the economy grew by 2.2 p.c. While the domestic conditions of the economic policy will not change, impulses are expected from the world economy, first of all from the USA. This means higher rate of growth and slower price increases. |
