| Tiivistelmä: | The pressure for depreciation on the Lira beginning in the spring of 1992 and reinforced in September of the same year reached a degree that unprecedented intervention of the central bank and a realignment could not prevent the withdrawal of the Italian currency from the European exchange rate system. The crisis of the Italian currency happened at a time when the economic growth of the country began to lose its momentum. The growth of the economy was only 2 p.c. in the first half of 1992 /the rate is related to a year/, definitely lower than the expansion of capatities. Other economic indicators are unfavourable too , and the prospects for 1992-93 are not much better. |
