Tiivistelmä:With the fall of the Iron Curtain and the opening of the European East the Northern Adriatic Area is getting its one-time geotransporting importance, deriving from the fact that Triest has been the main port of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.After the World War II some new ports were established in the Northern Adriatic Area (Koper, Portorosega, Portonogaro), completing thus the scene of the former "historical" ports (Triest, Venice, Rijeka).The Northern Adriatic ports today belong to three different statal units: to Slovenia (Koper), to Croatia (Rijeka), and to Italy (Triest, Venice, and two smaller ports).Among these ports and their relating transporting operators, not only that no cooperation exists but they are even competing among themselves unselectevily.This fact results in the fragmentation of the traffic flaws tending towards the Northern Adriatic Area.The other handicap of the Northern Adriatic Area is its unadequatedness as the transporting routes (highways, railroads , navigable channels) regards. These, and other facts are diminishing the transporting attractiveness of the Northern Adriatic Area for its regained Middle- and Eastern Europe Hinterland.On the other hand, this involves the continuing domination of the North Sea ports also as the traffic flaws regards which wuold normally tend toward the Northern Adriatic ports, due to the geographic nearness. The focus of the author's contribution is on the measures needed for increasing the transporting attractiveness of the Northern Adriatic Area for its historical and natural Hinterland.In this purpose, a vision of the Northern Adriatic Transporting system is developed. This System should be created jointly by the ports, other transporting operators interested, as well as by the Statal an Regional Communities involved.
