Tiivistelmä:A plenty of empirical literature is generated by the convergence hypothesis. The paper critically reviews some of the earlier key findings, clarifying their implications, and relating them to more recent results. Particular attention is given to interpretation of convergence empirics. The main findings include (i. a.) : 1) Uniform 2% rate of convergence could arise. 2) Usual empirical analyses can be misleading as to understanding the convergence. 3) The data show immobility and persistence across countries. 4) Convergence is observed across US states. There are some reservations and/or limitations as to the main findings mentioned.
