Tiivistelmä:This study provides a comprehensive examination of business links (as: foreign direct investment (FDI), licensing, trade, and patents) and knowledge links (here as: kn-links) (as: labour flow, citations and publications) within the context of technology transfer and technology cooperation btw. the two regions. The U.S. is shown to be increasingly dependent on imports from Asia whereas Asian nations are dependent on U.S. FDI and technology licenses. For kn-links, the U.S. continues to attract Asian scientists and engineers and, over the past 10 years, interregional collaborations have strengthened. Economic linkages in the past 30 years are now complemented by kn-links etc.
