Tiivistelmä:The paper examines the pressure that the electrical and electronics industry faces in adopting extended producer responsibility (EPR) policies through the introduction of the European Union's Directives on Waste Electrical and Electronics Equipment (WEEE) and the Restriction of Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (ROHS). It investigates the perseption and readiness of companies for implementing WEEE and ROHS in China based on the research findings on China's EE manufacturors. Supply chain management, raw material testing and cost implications appear to be key challenges regarding issues related to directives. A little evidence supports that these EU's directives have driven Chinese EE manufacturers towards systematic eco-design.
