Tiivistelmä:Intensity splitting is a particular type of intensity adap- tion, according to which a certain output quantity is pro- duced using at least two different intensities (production rates). As has been shown first by Glaser, there are cases in which intensity splitting allows production at a lower cost than any single intensity. The general solution of the problem of intensity adaption, found by Schüler and Dell- mann/Nastansky with different mathematical methods, shows that at most two different intensity values are required for production at minimum cost. A number of more general pro- blems of optimal machine usage can be solved based upon that solution, always taking into account that intensity split- ting can be necessary in order to minimize production cost.
