QUEUING THEORY
Kieli:eng
Tiivistelmä:The major objective is to examine the physical layout and location problems of automated assembly lines from a network optimization perspective where assembly lines are modeled as finite open queueing networks. The optimal allocation of buffer sizes between machine centers is determined so that the product throughput is maximized while minimizing the holding and buffer storage costs of the line. An approximate analytical decomposition technique for modeling open, finite, queueing networks is utilized to calculate the desired throughputs. Numerous experiments are conducted with balanced and unbalanced lines.
