Tiivistelmä:Discussed is how managerial characteristics contribute to organizational performance, and how this relationship might depend upon the strategic context facing the organization. For superior performance, it is necessary to attune the choice of the general manager to the strategy of the business unit. Competitive strategy interacts with several managerial orientations -functional background, locus of control, and problem-solving style - to influence the strategy. Directions of future research are discussed.
