Tiivistelmä:A fundamental model of the assembly process is proposed. The model can be used to evaluate a part's design, to evaluate the real necessary technology in robotics, and to predict the effect of technological progress on economic indexes and automation in the automobile industry. The progress of robot technology makes automation in the final assembly line possible. The rate of automation is calculated by means of forecasting the year of the introduction of the specified robots. Assembly processes are defined as a function of properties of both parts and robot tools. By the year 2000, final automobile assembly line will be automated between 35 and 75 p.c.
