| Tiivistelmä: | It is argued that ergonomics and social science are essential in training professional engineers to enable them to contribute to the quality of working life in the future. The case for the completely automatic factory is examined, and it is claimed that work organization or job design should aim to combat the dehumanizing effect of modern technology. The effects of technological developments on employment are discussed. The problem of how the professional engineer will be able to affect the quality of working life using a systematic theory, authority, community sanction, ethical codes, and a culture is analyzed. The principles of impartiality and non-profit orientation are stressed. |
