Tiivistelmä:Current discussion of automation in industrial enterprises is characterized by the use of the term "computer integrated manufacturing (CIM). Generally this term refers to a system of computer aided, integrated data processing for the performance of vital business and technical functions in manufacturing enterprises, although CIM is by no means purely technical problem. Its strategic significance (increased competitiveness through shorter product development cycles and greater flexibility) and the high investment sums required call for a broad business approach. Apart from the purely technical integration aspects and the resulting personnel implications must be taken into consideration.
