| Tiivistelmä: | The Swiss retail trade is entering a new epoch with European Article Number and suitable bar code scanner. Conditioned by the novel technical development, people are already speaking of a second revolution in the retail trade. Whether or not the introduction of scanning technology will prove a success like the invention of self-service depends on a number of factors. A fully automatic cash register is described. The advantages of Electronic Funds Transfer are considered. As a promise of the future the self-scanning concept is revealed. It is shown why and how this new system results in cost savings. |
