Tiivistelmä:Building on the resource dependence perspective, this paper argues that learning, networks, and institutions represent three building blocks able to enhance our understanding of the drivers behind mergers and acquisitions (M&As). Specifically, firms are considered as learning actors embedded in network relations and influenced by institutional development. Compared are firms' acquisition activities across the United States (U.S.) and China. It is shown that there are important learning and network factors (here as: l-and-n-fs.) leading to M&As. More interestingly, the impact of such l-and-n-fs. varies sharply across countries with different market-based institutions.
