| Tiivistelmä: | Over the range of efficient production rates, efficient factor substitution can be observed for Gutenberg production functions. Under mild assumptions, it is possible to compute the marginal rate of substitution as well as the elasticity of substitution in this range and to state these as simple closed-form expressions which only depend on the chosen production rate. Application of the latter result to different situations with specified functions of factor usage yields that it is possible in the case of one output and two inputs to identify all CES-functions as product functions of associated Gutenberg production functions. However, there are also cases of Gutenberg production functions with simple functions of factor usage for which the elasticity of substitution of the resulting product function is not constant (original in German). |
