| Tiivistelmä: | Better-Bilt Aluminium Co. implemented a carefully planned and detailed drug and alcohol abuse policy. Afterward, recordable OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) accidents dropped 51 percent in one year and 44 percent more the next year. Before a viable program can be instituted, however, management must understand how the condition of chemical dependency develops. the fact that the disease is progressive makes early identification and intervention key factors in recovery as well as keeping the cost of the program down. Several essential features that should be inherent in every substance abuse program are described. The role of a clearly defined policy and ensuing tests and training is emphasized. |
