Tiivistelmä:Should the success of occupational health units be judged solely on bottom-line savings? Barbara Millar examines a highly critical report on their use in the police force and finds out how companies are measuring the benefits of such services. Organizations set up occupational health units (OHUs) for a variety of reasons. Recent research by Alan Emmott, a Hampshire police superintendent, claims that the only worthwhile reasons for introducing OHUs at work are to reduce sickness absence and stem the rising tide of medical retirements.
