Tiivistelmä: | The focus of the investigation here is the impact of sex-based preferential selection on the type of work task women choose to perform or avoid. Unlike merit-based selection, preferential selection is ambiguous with regard to competence information. Consequently, if individuals have doubts about their ability to perform effectively, it can undermine the individuals' sense of competence in a work situation. But if they have no such doubts, the absence of competence affirmation should have negligible effects on their self- perceptions of competence. |
