Tiivistelmä:The logit model of discrete choice is introduced here as an analytical tool into standard oligopoly analysis and it is used to address the question of market and optimal product diversity. As shown elsewhere, the logit can be derived from preference foundations which are familiar to economists in industrial organization and it provides a convenient representation of the degree of heterogeneity of consumer tartes. The logit approach is flexible enough to accomodate consideration of a wide range of strategic variables available to firms (such as price, geographical location, advertising, product quality, number of product to offer etc.).
