| Tiivistelmä: | During the Eighth Five-Year period, China achieved tremendous achievements in the national economy and social development. They were manifested in the following aspects: (1) the high-speed and stable growth of the national economy, with a 11.7% average annual growth of GDP; (2) sustained growth of investment in fixed assets. It was estimated that the average annual growth rate would be 17.9% when calculated according to the prices of 1990; (3) remarkable improvement of the urban and rural living standard; (4) the rapid development of foreign economy; (5) the greater development in science, education, culture, public health and sports. Main problems included a weak agricultural foundation, slow reform of State enterprises and a worsening financial situation. |
