| Tiivistelmä: | Contemporary parallel processes of globalization and regionalization are challenging the position and role of states and firms in the world economy.In spite of some general believes it is not yet clear what are all the impacts of these two processes.Regionalization could be a stepping stone or a stumbling block to globalization, depending on circumstances, on policies behind the processes.To strike the right balance between the two seems to be the major policy consideration.The article states of by defining both processes, evaluating their anatomy and continues with the evaluation of interrelationship between the two.It concludes with the evaluation between the globalization and nationhood, stating that the dilemma is not either or but how much and when more emphasis should be given to globalization and/or regionalization.The crucial point is not how to conform to the global criteria but more how national interests can be realized better by global or initially more regional integration. |
