Tiivistelmä:This study examines levels of and changes in the distribution of income in five industrialised countries: USA , United Kingdom, Sweden, Netherlands and Canada. Using data from Luxembourg Income Study, this study accounts for the change in income inequality over time, exploring the effects of changes in markets, public policies and demographic shifts. The two distinctive features in this study are that it examines the trends in inequality in disposable income among the hole population in the five countries using comparable data, and it examines which broad sets of explanations are and which are not compatible with the observations , using a unified framework.
